Still Life Dreaming.      August 21st 2011

Well we are back from Edinburgh now and very satisfied that we did a grand job. Sparetyre theatre got a four star review, a spot on BBC 2 and close to full houses. Our audiences were lovely and lots of the Lothian Birth Cohort members came to see the show and some even came again another day .They loved it, particularly Ian Deary played by Sieska. What a wonderful team to work with! We had so much support and everything was resting on four inexperienced players. Well no longer experienced, and what an experience! Every day the crew had 15 minutes to prepare the set AV system, costumes, props, floor mikes etc etc. I had 10 changes for six characters. First I was Ailsa, a 75 year old lady with her knitting and school photo in her bag. Then came Andrew Carnegie ageing from young lad to mature man on stage, next up was Piaget from Switzerland - a cough and you miss me part, but then the glorious golden inhuman eugenicist. A tight skirt and 10 cm heels fortunately I am 40 pounds lighter than this time last year. Back to Ailsa and a quick change to Lawrence Walley next a doctorate student and the Henry Wellcome scene, Ailsa again with Ian Deary, rapid change to doctorate student, and finally Ailsa again. All helped by the loving gentle Saba without whom it would not have been possible
